Rio Vista FC today received news that four boy's had been invited to the West Ham United Youth Academy in London, England. The four boys Corey Carabajal (Rio Vista FC Reds), Devin Edwards (Rio Vista FC Reds), David Gros (Rio Vista FC Reds) and CJ Slough (Rio Vista FC Reds) were selected based upon performances at the West Ham United FC Albuquerque ID Camp and the West Ham United National ID Camp in Virginia. The players will be invited to spend 10 days training, interacting and watching at the West Ham Academy later this year. The players already feel they have benefited from the coaching and exposure to different coaching and competition. Corey Carbajal from the Rio Vista FC Reds said "The West Ham Invitational Camp was a great experience. The main thing I took away from the camp was speed of play, ball control and opening your body to face the field. I learned that England has a different style of play where they want to play with quality to a high forward as quick as possible. Here, we tend to pass around the field more. I thought the camp was a great opportunity to improve my skills and to be introduced to different coaching styles. Virginia in July was an experience in itself. I have never sweated so much in my whole life." You can check out more West Ham United News at www.westhamacademyinternational.com

Congratulations to the Rio Vista FC 94 Boys!
The U16s had a run of great results in the spring and summer of 2010. After placing second in NM State Cup at the end of May, the 94s traveled to Denver in June for US Club Regionals. After many rain delays, the boys won three straight games on the final day to seal a Regional Championship. Dramatically, a 7-6 shootout victory over local rivals Rush Argonauts closed the deal--the boys were off to VA Beach for US Club Nationals at the end of July. The 94s played teams from FL, NY, and WA on it's way to the National Championship. In the pouring rain, the 94s persevered against a good side from Florida to decide the title. The game ended Rio Vista 1-2 Southwest Florida Academy in overtime. The boys walked away with National Runners-up medals around their necks and an experience they will never forget in their memories.

The West Ham United FC ID Camp took place June 29th through July 2nd. 100 players attended 2 hour sessions each day to receive instruction and be evaluated by West Ham United International Senior Coach James Meara. It was a great week with the players taken through exercises used on a daily basis at the West Ham United Youth Academy in London, England, the emphasis being on technical proficiency, before being evaluated in small sided game situations at the end of each practice. Players attending the ID Camp may be invited to attend the West Ham United National ID Camp later this month in Virginia to compete with 100 other hopefuls vying for the opportunity to travel to the UK and receive training at the West Ham United academy in London, England later this year. West Ham United International senior Coach James Meara said "I would like to thank everyone associated with Rio vista FC for all the hospitality at last weeks West Ham United International Academy ID Camp, Albuquerque. Everyone associated with Rio Vista F.C. was outstanding, the level of professionalism and organization was first class. I was very impressed with the level of play demonstrated by the boys and girls at the ID camp. I have been traveling all over the country over the past couple of months and can say that the overall quality at the New Mexico ID Camp was among the best I have come across. We are looking forward to inviting a group of the boys and girls to the National Camp later this month and hopefully look forward to seeing them play again in front of the English Academy Coaches. Once again, many thanks." James Meara, Senior Coaching Staff, West Ham United International Academy.
