AFTER SCHOOL OUTREACH SOCCER PROGRAM
East San Jose Elementary School

Rio Vista FC Coach and Board member, Joe Barreda, is coordinating an after school soccer program at East San Jose Elementary School.  Joe has been involved in the soccer community for 28 years, as a coach, administrator and mentor. There are currently 34 students registered in the program.  The program is providing a needed alternative to these young children who live in a high risk neighborhood.  The school is near the cross streets of Gibson & Broadway SE.

The intramural program is run on Monday and Friday afternoons, and at this time, is geared towards fourth and fifth grade male students. Each of these students is enthusiastic in their participation.  There is a need to expand to the younger age groups as well as a girls program.  There are some limitations such as field size, equipment resources and soccer mentors.

Ethicon Corporation has been a huge supporter of this endeavor, supplying finances to purchase tee shirts with the school logo, supplying material and labor to build goals for the soccer field. Dave Sturdivant and Sonya Woodhouse, along with Ethicon plant management people were instrumental in building the goals.

The after school program will run through the remainder of the school year.  It is the intention of Rio Vista FC and East San Jose to resume the program in the fall of 2008.  This program has the potential to grow to other area schools. Week after week the boys ask Coach Barreda “When are we going to play the other schools?”

The administration at East San Jose is enthusiastic and supportive. Their main goal is focusing on education and school pride, although they realize the importance of this after school program because of the “high risk” issues in this neighborhood.  Any support that you would like to provide to this endeavor would be greatly appreciated.  You can reach Joe at: 822-8791 or jfbarreda@msn.com

Rio Practice T-shirt Sponsorship
Every year the Club provides its players and coaches with a Rio training T-shirt, (about 1400 shirts in total).  Last year we had one sponsor, whose logo was displayed on the back of all the shirts.  This year our goal is to get 10 sponsors, each having their logo displayed on the back of the shirt.  The cost of sponsorship will be $600 for each company.  This sponsorship defers the cost of the t-shirts from our club and provides its members with a shirt to use for practice, while providing your company with advertising.  If you are interested, please contact Jason Moran at 331-1373 or jmsoccer@msn.com.

RIO VISTA F.C. HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS FALL PROGRAM
Rio Vista FC is offering female high school aged players the opportunity to play Club soccer throughout the fall season. The goal of the program is to provide a competitive, learning environment for those players who are not participating in high school soccer. Dependant upon the level of interest players will be offered the opportunity to train three times every week throughout the fall season and will also play in a number of scrimmages. In previous seasons we have traveled to Arizona and Colorado to play against regionally and nationally ranked club teams and again based on numbers in the program this will be considered for 2007.

In order to be able to offer a quality product we will require at least 12 participants.  Players do not have to be current Rio Vista FC players to participate in this program.
